Day 1 - Delhi
On arrival in Delhi, be transferred to your hotel. Stay the next two nights.
Day 2 - Delhi
Discover the historic riches of this incredible city on a full day tour, starting with the elegant and spectacular tomb of Emperor Humayun, a World Heritage Listed site set amid lovely gardens. Take a rickshaw ride through the vibrant chaotic streets of Old Delhi, where crowded traders meet monuments such as Jama Masjid and the Red Fort. Visit a local Sikh temple to experience more of India’s cultural and religious diversity (B)
Day 3 - Delhi to Agra
Travel to Agra and explore the famous Agra Fort, with its superb Mughal architecture. Build and added to between the 16th and 17th centuries by successive rulers of the Mughal Dynasty, the fort was built primarily as a military structure, but Shahjahan upgraded it to a palace and later it became his gilded prison for eight years after his son Aurangzeb seized power. Catch your first glimpses of the Taj Mahal from the forts ramparts. Stay the next two nights (B)
Day 4 - Agra
With a local guide, experience the unforgettable sight of the Taj Mahal at sunrise. Often considered the pinnacle of Mughal art in India, the Taj was build by Emperor Shah Jahan for his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. When declaring it a world heritage site, UNESCO described it as ‘the jewel of Muslim art in India’. There are few words that can describe the magnificence of this monument. Marvel as the lights and colours transform this stunning building in the beautiful dawn glow. This is a quiet serene time with ample opportunity to explore the ornamental gardens without crowds. After lunch, discover the hilltop ruins of Fatehpur Sikri, the 16th century capital of the Mughal rules which was abandoned due to water scarcity in the area. The great Mughal Emperor Akbar had a dream ti build a beautiful capital city that the world would remember. The result was Fatehpur Sikri, built entirely on red sandstone about 40 kilometres from Agra. It was Akbar’s capital for 15 years, abandoned after his death in 1585 (B)
Day 5 - Agra to Delhi
After breakfast be transferred to Delhi airport (B)
